First fish caught on Spearhead
January 2, 2009
There’s no better way to bring in the new year than catching your first fish on Spearhead Lake! At least that’s our opinion, anyway. Here are some photos of our new (used) ice house and the fish we caught this afternoon. We fished for two and a half hours and caught northerns, walleye and perch. Not too bad for a first outing onto the frozen lake. We measured the ice at about 16 inches thick and found the slush-layer finally froze.

A beautiful 25-inch northern pike

Our newly aquired ice house is what gives me the motivation to sit longer than an hour out on the ice. Ok, it’s really our portable heater! Spearhead Lake can sometimes feel like an icy wind tunnel, so it’s nice to have both. We’ll keep you posted on more of our ice fishing adventures!
